Niigata Fresh Fish Wholesaler Minato Shokudo
A long-established seafood restaurant where you can enjoy seafood rice bowls and fishermen's meals made with fresh local fish caught that morning.
Located on Bandai Island in Niigata City, Niigata Fresh Fish Wholesaler Minato Shokudo has long been loved by both locals and visitors as a restaurant operated directly by the Niigata Central Fish Market. Since its founding in 1904, it has served fish dishes made with fresh local fish landed at the market. You can enjoy seafood rice bowls, fishermen's meals, and more at reasonable prices.
The signature dish is the "Kaisendon," a luxurious seafood rice bowl piled high with seven kinds of sashimi. It comes as a satisfying set with miso soup, a small side dish, and the house specialty "Suru-ten" (tempura dried squid). Other popular choices include the "Sashimi Set Meal" made with seasonal local fish, "Oyster Gangan-yaki," which is steamed and grilled on the spot, and the "Oyster Rice Bowl" finished with a special Japanese-style sauce. There is also a wide selection of Niigata local sake, including a menu that lets you compare three kinds of sake.
Large fishing flags decorate the interior, recreating the atmosphere of a fishing port and giving the space a distinctly Niigata seaside feel. In addition to table seating, there are also raised tatami-style seats, making it easy for groups and families to dine here. Located inside Pier Bandai, it also offers convenient access to nearby shopping spots.
