Sanjo-dori Shopping Mall

Sanjo Street runs east-west through downtown Nara City from the JR Nara Station on the JR Kansai Line to the Kasuga Taisha Shrine in Nara Park. The Sanjo-dori Shopping Mall stretches along the street from the JR Nara Station to Yasuragi no Michi street, which runs north to south along the west side of Kintetsu Nara Station on the Kintetsu Nara Line. This approximately 500-meter-long shopping street is home to about 100 stores, including restaurants, cafes, kimono shops, souvenir stores, and many more.

The sidewalks for pedestrians are wider than the road for vehicles, and they are well maintained and easy to walk on. The area is closed to traffic from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Sunday and on national holidays, making it much easier to browse along the street. The irregular event "Kasuga Omotesando SUN DAYS PARK" provides a unique opportunity to relax with low tables, chairs, hammocks, and beaded sofas set out on the artificial grass adjacent on the sidewalk. You can use them to take a break during your strolling activities, or buy a ready-made meal and take your time enjoying it.
