Last update :

This Monaka specialty shop is located on Asakusa Nakamise Shopping Street, bustling with people as the main approach to Senso-ji Temple. The shop's look, which mirrors the lantern (Chochin) of Kaminarimon Gate, known as a symbol of Asakusa, has a nostalgic atmosphere that evokes a sense of downtown charm. The Monaka dough, carefully baked using domestic glutinous rice, provides a light and crispy texture.

Perfect for Asakusa sightseeing is the "Ice Monaka" sandwiching cool ice cream, which can be eaten with one hand. The lineup includes 6 to 8 types, including the mellow "Ice Monaka Vanilla," the refined "Ice Monaka Matcha" with a slight bitterness, and the "Ice Monaka Black Sesame" with a spread of fragrant sweetness.

The "Anko Monaka (grain)" filled with grainy red bean paste made from Hokkaido Tokachi beans is also popular as a souvenir, as it can be carried at room temperature. The just-right sweetness of the grainy red bean paste and the crispy Monaka make a superb combination. Other must-see seasonal menus include "Homemade Fruit Vinegar Juice" available from March to November, "Shaved Ice" only from June to September, and "Oshiruko" and "Amazake" available only in winter.
