Tsukiji Hongwanji Cafe Tsumugi

Start the day off healthy with an 18-dish breakfast that your body will love at the Japanese-style cafe in Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple.

Last update :

The cafe "Tsumugi" in the Information Center opened in 2017, when Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple celebrated its 400th anniversary, based on the concept of an "open temple''.
With a large glass window overlooking the main hall, visitors can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and sweets in a relaxed atmosphere in an outstanding location.
In November 2022, the café will be renovated as a book café with more seating and the ability to read Buddhist and other books.

Among the many menu items, the most popular is the "18-dish breakfast” menu, which is available in limited quantities.
The menu is named after the 18th wish of the 48 wishes of Amida Buddha, called "Hongwan," and includes porridge, miso soup, and a total of 16 small dishes. From side dishes such as "tofu with yuzu bean paste," "yuba cooked with salmon roe," and "grilled duck with Japanese pepper," to desserts such as "green tea jelly," the unique lineup makes it difficult to choose which dish to try first.
The sight of 18 dishes lined up on a square tray is a sight to behold, and is one of the reasons for the restaurant's popularity, not only for eating but also for visual enjoyment.
Half of the seats are reserved for breakfast, so if you want to be sure of a meal, you are recommended to make a reservation on the website in advance.

You can visit the main hall from 6:00 am. If you visit the main hall first and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, you are sure to get a good start to the day.
